FiTU Tungsten Ned Head – A Premium Choice for Serious Perch Anglers

The FiTU Tungsten Ned Head is one of those bits of terminal tackle that immediately feels designed by anglers, for anglers. Precision-made from 97% pure tungsten, this little mushroom-shaped head has been crafted for finesse presentations where sensitivity and balance matter most, and after plenty of time on the bank using it for perch, I can safely say it’s earned a permanent spot in my tackle box.

Built for Performance

FiTU’s tungsten Ned head is completely lead-free and built around a dense 97% tungsten core. That extra density gives it a smaller profile and much greater bottom sensitivity than standard lead versions, perfect when you’re fishing slow, subtle presentations in cold or clear water.

The flat mushroom design helps the bait stand up naturally on the deck, mimicking a defensive crayfish or small prey rooting around in the silt. The Zero-Chip Oxy-Black coating adds a slick, durable finish that reduces glare and resists scratching, ideal for clean presentations in clear water.

FiTU also use quality BKK hooks and a stainless-steel bait keeper, meaning your soft baits stay locked in place without tearing or slipping off after a few casts.

Available in 2.7 g, 3.5 g, and 5.3 g packs (£5.49 RRP), they cover most UK perch fishing scenarios from shallow canals to deeper stillwaters.

On the Bank, Real Results

I’ve fished the FiTU Tungsten Ned Head extensively this season, and it’s been responsible for some cracking perch, including several over the 2lb mark and few 3lbers too. What stands out immediately is the sensitivity, you can feel every pebble, stick, and subtle take through the rod tip. That’s the beauty of tungsten, it transmits feedback brilliantly, which makes it easier to detect bites from finicky winter perch.

Presentation-wise, this Ned head excels. It keeps the lure perfectly upright even when stationary, and it’s incredibly stable when dragged or subtly hopped along the bottom. Perch love that “defensive crayfish” posture, claws up, body raised, and I’ve had countless takes when leaving the lure paused for a few seconds on the deck.

Pairing with Lures

I’ve paired the FiTU Ned Head with a range of soft baits, and it’s proven remarkably versatile:

  • Westin CreCraw – A brilliant combo. Paired with the correct weight for the conditions you can really get the craw working for you..
  • Z-Man TRD CrawZ – Shorter, compact and perfect for pressured venues. The FiTU head gives it a neat, balanced posture that perch can’t resist.
  • FiTU Concept Craw – A soon-to-be-released lure that’s made to match the Ned head perfectly. I’ve been lucky enough to test it, and the pairing is spot-on, the body sits upright, the claws flutter naturally, and the hook sits in the ideal position.
  • Keitech Swing Impact Fat – It fishes beautifully on the FiTU head. The weight keeps it tracking just off the bottom on a slow retrieve creating a subtle, baitfish-style presentation that can trigger bites when the perch aren’t on crustaceans.Or fish it much slower with hops and jigs.

Practical Details

The BKK hook is razor sharp with enough backbone to handle solid fish without bending out, even on heavier tackle. The hook keeper grips soft plastics firmly, and I’ve not had a single bait slip or tear free prematurely.

The weight range is ideal for UK conditions:

  • 2.7 g – Great for canals and slow-moving drains.
  • 3.5 g – My all-rounder for most perch situations.
  • 5.3 g – Perfect for deeper lakes, reservoirs, or when you need to maintain bottom contact in wind or flow.

Verdict

The FiTU Tungsten Ned Head is a premium piece of terminal tackle that genuinely delivers on the water. It offers the perfect mix of finesse, durability, and performance for modern perch anglers who value presentation and sensitivity.

Whether paired with a compact craw, a creature bait, or a subtle paddle-tail, this head gives your lure the perfect posture to tempt wary perch into striking.

If you’re serious about perch fishing, and especially if you like fishing slow, subtle Ned-style presentations, this is one bit of kit you’ll want in your box.
