FiTU (Fishing Tungsten) – Ely Launch Day

Last weekend, the picturesque banks of the River Ouse in Ely played host to a much-anticipated event in the predator angling calendar, the official FiTU (Fishing Tungsten) product launch and bank side social. Designed to bring lure anglers together while showcasing a new standard in terminal tackle, the event blended relaxed riverside chat with hands-on demonstrations of some seriously well-designed tungsten gear.

A Lure Angling Day With a Difference

Despite a detour through the Fens due to local bridge closures, we arrived early to find a hive of activity already underway. The FiTU stand was coming together, with a mix of familiar faces and new attendees lending a hand. As the sun rose over Ely, anglers from across the region gathered in good spirits, ready for a day of gear talk, demonstrations, and hopefully a few fish.

Officially kicking off around 10am, the stand attracted a steady flow of anglers, locals, and curious passers-by throughout the day. The vibe was welcoming and informal – just the way a good tackle launch should be.

Later in the afternoon, FiTU ambassador angler Adam Jones hosted a session on Ned rig fishing, heading down to the river with a group to explain his approach to finesse tactics in pressured conditions. For many, it was a real highlight- getting insight into techniques and tackle choices directly from an angler who knows his stuff.

The Tackle – A New Standard in Fishing Tungsten

Let’s be honest: terminal tackle rarely sets pulses racing. Unless you’re a real lure-nerd, jig heads, hooks, and weights are essential but often overlooked parts of the kit bag. That said, FiTU’s new range of fishing tungsten tackle genuinely stood out.

Take their tungsten jig heads, for example. Finished with an anodised black coating for a sleek, non-reflective look, each head features clearly printed white weight markings, no more guess work on what weight you have tied on. The hooks are surgically sharp yet noticeably robust, and even the glue has been colour-matched to the jig head finish. These aren’t mass-produced rubbish; they’re the result of a lure angler’s obsession with detail and function.

From drop shot weights to cheburashka heads, every product in the range looks and feels premium—without being flashy. It’s clear FiTU have built this range from the bank up, thinking carefully about what real anglers actually want.

A Social Worth Attending

Once the demos and product showcases wrapped up, attention turned to the more relaxed part of the day – the social. With a BBQ fired up, cold drinks flowing, and fishing talk in full swing, the atmosphere was spot on. Many attendees had only known each other from social media, so it was great to put faces to usernames, swap stories, and enjoy a sense of community that’s sometimes lacking in the lure scene.

There were plenty of laughs, some good-natured tackle envy, and a healthy amount of raffle ticket buying. Mattia (LondonCatchandRelease) walked away with a top prize—a Major Craft Ceana rod. Not a bad win, especially considering the day’s laid-back format.

And the Fishing?

With temperatures soaring conditions weren’t ideal for lure fishing. That said, a few fish came out during the day, and those who stayed on into the evening were rewarded with a handful of landed fish. The bankside fishing competition was postponed, sensibly until the cooler months, with an October date already being discussed for the next meet-up.

Final Thoughts on FiTU Fishing Tungsten

From product quality to the positive atmosphere, FiTU’s launch day ticked every box. As lure anglers, we often fish alone or in small groups, so events like this are a welcome change, bringing together like-minded anglers and helping build a stronger community.
