2024 Angling Trust British Pike Championships result
Trevor Avis claimed the top prize at this year’s Angling Trust British Pike Championships final with a single fish—a 13lb 2oz pike that clinched him the trophy and £500. Unlike other fishing competitions, where multiple catches often determine the winner, pike fishing can be won with just one strategic bite. For Trevor, that decisive catch came an hour into the five-hour contest held on Whittlesey AA’s Glassmoor Bank and 20ft Drains.
The winning tactic? A popped-up smelt positioned down the middle of Trevor’s peg on the 20ft Drain. It proved to be his only bite of the day but was enough to seal his victory.
In second place, with a 12lb 6oz pike caught early in the match, was local angler Liam Wade, who took home £400. Phillip Watts rounded out the top three with a 10lb 13oz catch.
Among the younger anglers, junior champion Charlie Wade secured his title with a 1lb 5oz jack pike. Rita Clarke claimed the ladies’ title, making her mark despite a quieter day on the scales. Across the whole match, 28 pike were landed, a testament to the determination of all participants.
The Angling Trust extended its gratitude to Whittlesey AA for the use of their waters, to event organizer Andy Jackson, and to the dedicated team of stewards and supporters who ensured the event ran smoothly. Thanks also go out to the anglers who competed in qualifiers across the country, making this championship another one to remember.
